Overview of Reading Schemes

Here at St. Hubert’s we use a variety of different reading resources and schemes in school. In Reception we use Read Write Inc. Read Write Inc. Phonics (also known as Ruth Miskin Literacy or RML) is a lively phonic programme that gets children reading and writing fast. We also use Oxford Reading Tree and many other resources.

In Years 1 and 2 we still teach Read Write Inc. The children also use Oxford Reading Tree, 1, 2, 3 and away, Collins literacy, Nelson Thornes Comprehension and many more.

In Key Stage 2 we use a wide variety of schemes and resources including: Reading Laboratory, Nelson Thornes Comprehension, Project X, Collins Literacy, Fresh Start, Rising Stars and many many more, including full use of our fabulous library.

St. Hubert’s Reading Schemes and Help

Reading is a wonderful past time which should be treasured and enjoyed. Reading and the skills acquired through learning to read, lie at the centre of all educational development.

In order to support parents with their child’s reading, we have created a website on our school Open Hive. The reading help website contains many exciting resources such as:

  • A huge virtual library full of exciting EBooks.

  • Videos of teachers supporting children with their reading.

  • Help documents to use with your child for each coloured level of our school reading scheme.

  • Videos, resources and help with teaching RML phonics.

  • Lots of fun and games to practise your reading skills.

Parents and pupils can access the reading website by clicking the link below and logging in using their pupil or family login details. If you have forgotten your login, please ask Mr. Doyle or the office for help.
